Summer Fun at Lavender Pond Farm: Killingworth, CT

Destinations, New England

Towns like Madison, Guilford and Old Saybrook on the Connecticut Shoreline are perfect for sun & sand, but if you’re seeking a few hours away from the beach this summer, I suggest heading 10 {or so} miles inland for a visit to Lavender Pond Farm in Killingworth, CT.

A 25-acre property filled with glorious fields, Lavender Pond Farm has been delighting visitors since 2014, when owners Denise & Chris Salafia broke ground with an initial planting of 9,000 lavender plants.

My mom, Mackenzie and I recently visited Lavender Pond Farm. We’d heard great things and were both very intrigued, but honestly didn’t really know what to expect.

After parking and saying “hello” to their Lavendoodle named Flora {yes Lavendoodle, as in a Goldendoodle who lives on a lavender farm… is that not the cutest?} we made our way to their farm store. We inquired about wandering the farm and were told we could explore the grounds however we’d like, so off exploring we went!

We moseyed up and down rows of lavender, taking in the gorgeous sights and scents along the way. Clearly Miss Mackenzie enjoyed the fresh, lavender-filled air, as she snoozed through most of the visit.

We both mentioned what a lovely spot it would be for a wedding or other special event. {They host them! More info here.} Growing up on the Connecticut Shoreline, I admit that I’m partial to events on the water. I grew up on the Long Island Sound and it’s just second nature to me. But Lavender Pond Farm offers SO many backdrops, it would make for a drop – dead – gorgeous wedding venue. Can’t you just picture amazing wedding photos with this life-sized chess game, vintage Ford pickup and blooming lavender plants in the background?

After wandering for a few hours, we concluded our visit where it began, at the farm store, where we purchased a few house-made products as well as a lavender plant, and left full of enthusiasm for Lavender Pond Farm.

We highly recommend visiting if you’re in the area! Lavender blooms in the summer, making summer months the most picturesque months to visit, however the farm and their farm store are open year-round. I’m sure we’ll be making a return visit prior to next summer… if only to say another “hello” to their sweet Lavendoodle.

Visit Lavender Pond Farm on the web. Or reach them via phone at 203.350.0367. They’re located at 318 Roast Meat Hill Road, Killingworth, CT 06419.
