Weekend of Love: Valentine’s Celebrations in Connecticut & New York

Lifestyle, Sips & Bites

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, and whether you’re seeking a weekend getaway or a casual brunch, Fairfield and Litchfield Counties in CT and Westchester County, NY offer excellent options for every couple. Here are a few of my top picks:

FOR THE SEAFOOD-LOVING COUPLE

Saltaire Oyster Bar and Fish House | Port Chester, NY

A newbie to the Westchester dining scene, Saltaire quickly became a favorite of many, and even received love from the New York Times. Don’t be fooled by the century-old building the restaurant calls home – Saltaire’s food and beverage program is fresh and innovative.

This Valentine’s Day, Saltaire is offering a prix-fixe menu ($170/couple) boasting cheeky course names, including “Love at First Sight,” “Honeymoon Phase,” “The Big Day,” “A Little Naughty” and “Growing Old Together.”

FOR THE OENOPHILES

Litchfield Hills Winter Wine Trail | Western Connecticut

Litchfield Hills Winter Wine Trail

Winter doesn’t mean the wineries in Litchfield County (or other parts of Connecticut) close up shop. In fact, six wineries in Western Connecticut – DiGrazia Vineyards, Haight-Brown Vineyard, Hopkins Vineyard, Jerram Winery, Miranda Vineyard and Sunset Meadow Vineyards – have teamed up to once again offer the Winter Wine Trail Passport.

During this promotion, oenophiles may visit all six vineyards, have the back of the passport stamped at each one and then turn it in to any of the six participating wineries to be entered to win one of five incredible prizes – including a weekend getaway at an area inn, a chauffeured wine tasting excursion and more.

This weekend in celebration of Valentine’s Day, all participating wineries are offering special events like chocolate tastings and cheese tastings. Find out more about the events on the wine trail’s website.

FOR THE STAYCATIONERS

J House Greenwich | Greenwich, Connecticut

Luxe boutique hotel J House Greenwich still has availability for Valentine’s weekend getaways. With impressive art that rivals NYC galleries and dining that delights, J House Greenwich is the perfect spot for a weekend escape. Indulge with fireside cocktails and a couple’s massage.

Valentine’s weekend only, enjoy a 90-minute couple’s massage with your sweet for just $300. Email the hotel’s Spa Director at dcervi@jhousegreenwich.com to book.

FOR THE LUXE DINING LOVERS

Valbella Restaurant | Riverside, CT

Valbella Connecticut

When it comes to fine dining, Valbella does it best – and has been for over 20 years. From an intimate setting and exceptional service to decadent, expertly prepared cuisine, Valbella guarantees a home-run for a memorable occasion.

Splurge – with both wallet and calories – on indulgent dishes like Tournedos alla Rossini; medallions of filet mignon with foie gras and caramelized shallots in a Barolo demi glaze, served with truffle mashed potatoes. (Hello deliciousness!)

If it’s available (i.e. not booked for a private party) ask to sit in the wine cellar. It’s an excellent experience!

FOR THE CHIC-BUT-CASUAL COUPLE

Del Frisco’s Grille | Stamford, CT

Those seeking a casual yet buzzy atmosphere and friendly service will enjoy an afternoon or evening spent at Del Frisco’s Grille, a relative newcomer to Downtown Stamford.

With a full brunch menu (in addition to lunch and dinner) on Saturday and Sunday, diners may sip on a Cupid’s Cocktail – made with Stoli Razberi, Pomegranate and Orange Juice topped with Sparkling Wine – before tucking into a Filet Mignon or Bay of Fundy Salmon.

What are YOUR plans for this weekend? Are you laying low or going out exploring? I’d love to hear!

Happy (early) Valentine’s Day!
