Charles and I like to think we can bring our pups anywhere. They’re small, compact and (for the most part) easy to manage. So while our “family of 4” was in the Sarasota area, we knew a trip to Brohard Paw Park, a dog beach we’d heard fabulous things about, was a must.
Located in Venice, Florida, about 30 minutes south of Sarasota, Brohard Paw Park lies within South Brohard Beach. A 20+ acre facility, South Brohard Beach claims to be the only beach in Sarasota County that welcomes dogs.
Our first glimpse was that of endless sea – the Gulf of Mexico, to be precise. After strolling along a boardwalk we were met with an expansive beach dotted with happy, frolicking dogs of all shapes and sizes. We unleashed the dogs and they were off!
A dog beach of this size is really a sight to see – or better yet, to experience firsthand. I’m no stranger to dog parks – as a former Manhattanite living with pups in a tiny apartment, I quickly became a HUGE fan of them – however Brohard Paw Park was on a completely different level. (And based on Wellington’s smile, I think he’d agree!)
One of the things that differentiates Brohard Paw Park from other dog beaches is the quality of the facilities. No one wants to chauffeur a sandy dog, and a dog-cleaning station located near the exit of the beach makes transporting a happy AND clean dog possible. The park also offers doggie bags and clean restrooms, ensuring that dog moms and dads are happy, too.
For more information and directions, find Brohard Paw Park on Yelp or on Venice, Florida’s website.
Have you been to Brohard Paw Park? If so, I’d love to hear your thoughts! (I hope you enjoyed it as much as we did!)
